Choose the stone, not just the name
When natural variation is part of the appeal, make the actual slab a central part of the decision. Ask what will be supplied, whether you can inspect it and how the most visible areas will sit within the finished kitchen.
Bring cabinet and floor samples when viewing stone. Check the surface in a similar light to your kitchen and discuss whether the selected finish changes its appearance.
Make the layout part of the selection
Ask us to show proposed joints, sink and hob openings, and any changes of direction. A striking area on a slab may fall inside a cut-out unless the layout is planned with that in mind.
For an island or breakfast bar, ask us to confirm the support requirements and practical handling route. Do not choose an overhang simply from a photograph.
Ask for a care specification
The Natural Stone Institute recommends identifying the stone's composition before choosing cleaning products. Ask us whether your selected granite needs sealing and what maintenance we recommend; do not assume a universal annual schedule.
Keep the written care advice with the final specification. Compare marble if appearance is your main priority, or quartz if you are also considering manufactured designs.
